Signs You’ve Lost Control and How to Recognise Them

Ever feel like you’re constantly busy, but not actually moving forward? Are your days full of emails, phone calls, customer issues and last-minute problems and by the end of the week, you find you’ve spent the whole week being reactive rather than proactive. If that sounds familiar, you are losing control. It control doesn’t happen overnight but happens slowly.

What signs should you look out for?

  • Your to-do list keeps growing.
  • You’re working longer hours.
  • Your head never switches off.
  • Your confidence maybe taking a knock.
  • You’re flat out but not making any progress.
  • You’re starting to doubt yourself.
  • You are second‑guessing decisions more than usual.

What can you do?

Firstly, you should understand that control isn’t something you find it’s something you create – “you take control.”  You don’t need more time – only you can be truly responsible for the time you have.

You need to build your framework for control a process that works for you to be in control and here’s how – undertake your own personal ctrl-alt-del.

Step 1: Write down all the tasks that are messy, stressful and overwhelming.

Step 2: Highlight the tasks that are integral to your goals and objectives.

Step 3: Select the 3 most urgent and work on those

Implement Directional diary management. This is an essential control stage that will call upon and sharpen your decision making process.

Step 4: Map out your diary decide when you will undertake your 3 urgent tasks. Make sure you enter them into your diary.

Step 5: DND – When you are undertaking your tasks make sure you are in do not disturb mode. Be in control of what you are doing!

Step 6: Plan the rest of your day to include time for emails, telephone calls etc.

Consider this.

Taking back control isn’t about perfection. It’s about clarity, focus, and steady progress. Once you master it, it’s a very positive step to improving both your business and personal life.

Finally, don’t try to do it alone. Progress comes faster when you have structure and accountability. Someone or something that keeps you consistent when life gets busy.
